De-stress rather than distress

Experience Resilience, Balance, and Peace at work

Working in business can be rewarding, but also challenging and stressful. Busy schedules can lead to lack of self-care and diminished resiliency. We can all benefit from better resiliency and self-care to help us mitigate the daily stresses of work and life. The organization that understands and nurtures the life in work life is the organization that people are drawn to.

Create a Culture of Resiliency

Catherine Duncan and Henry Emmons offer a series of talks that address lawyer and legal professionals well-being. Their two talks – The Road to Resilience, a 3-series talk, and Integrative Approaches to Mental Health, a 2-series talk with nutritionist Carolyn Denton, have been approved for CLE credits in MN and a number of other states in the U.S.

We explore stress, health and the healing benefits of truly attending to your body, mind and heart. We delve into the healthful advantages of breath, mindfulness, movement, sleep and nutrition. We explore epigenetics, the neuroplasticity of the brain and why it is important to create space for curiosity, creativity and self-compassion. We will share ways you can apply all of this in your daily life.

Our talks are a resource to provide education on mental health issues that support the ABA Well-Being Pledge.

Integrative Approaches to Mental Health

A 2-Series Talk with Henry Emmons, Catherine Duncan, Carolyn Denton

The Evolution of Fear- Anxiety and the stress that drives it are nothing new. But the nature of stress, especially in a high-stakes environment like a law firm, is indeed different in today’s world. We will explore how it has come to this, and what we can learn from nature and neuroscience about the factors that erode resilience. We’ll learn how anxiety manifests in different patterns depending on the brain area involved. That will point us toward the subtypes of anxiety and how to heal.

The Faces of Depression- Why are we talking about depression in a law firm? We will look at the epidemiology of depression and the unique challenges in a busy legal practice. We will explore the underlying causes of depression and the reasons for a breakdown in resilience. We’ll discuss the distinct patterns of the three subtypes of depression framed in the context of neurobiology and neuroscience. Understanding one’s typical response to stress allows for more targeted choices for self-care and other solutions to depression.

“Working with Catherine and Henry was nothing short of fantastic! Not only were they both a pleasure to work with and made the logistics and behind-the-scenes of the programming simple and stress-free, they also presented content to our attorneys and legal professionals that was timely, relevant, meaningful, and transformative. The feedback on the programs they presented was overwhelmingly positive, and I am still hearing words of gratitude and appreciation for bringing them to the firm. I recommend Catherine and Henry to a law firm looking to engage with experts to help improve the well-being of their attorneys and staff.”

Kendra Brodin, Chief Attorney Development Officer, Taft

“We've had the pleasure of working with Catherine Duncan, Henry Emmons, and Carolyn Denton on a number of programs.  They spent time with our lawyers and staff to understand our culture and issues in order to tailor programs for our firm.  They presented valuable information with specific examples and practical tips for well-being. Their program on  “An Integrative Approach to Mental Health" examined how the mind, body, and nutrition play a role in anxiety and depression in the legal profession. Their programs were very well received. We look forward to working with them again on future programs.”
